Everton and Leeds United hit with FA charge after Goodison Park 'mass confrontation'

Everton have been hit with another charge by the Football Association.

Just a day after being fined £40,000 for failing to control their players and bench against Liverpool at Anfield, Everton have been hit with another charge for a similar offence that took place during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Leeds United at Goodison Park.

The incident, which occured in the first half, started when Dwight McNeil fouled Tyler Adams in the far corner of the pitch. Adams then reacted to the challenge with the Leeds man appearing to push the Everton winger to the ground as things quickly escalated off the pitch.

Both sets of players then came rushing in, with plenty of pushing and shoving going on. After referee Andrew Madley managed to calm things down, he booked McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Adam and Weston McKennie for their parts in the melee.

Leeds have also been charged for their part in the 'mass confrontation' and both clubs have until Monday to respond to the charge.

"Everton and Leeds United have both been charged for a mass confrontation that took place during their Premier League fixture on Saturday 18 February 2023," an FA statement read.

"It is alleged that, during the 42nd minute of the fixture, both clubs failed to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or failed to ensure that their players did behave in a way which is improper and/or provocative. Both clubs have until Monday 27 February 2023 to provide their respective responses."

Seamus Coleman was the hero for Everton as his second-half goal secured his side a crucial three points that helped move them out of the relegation zone. The Blues are now two wins from two games at home under Sean Dyche.
