Everton agree £22million transfer fee with Barcelona for Andre Gomes

Everton have agreed a £22m fee with Barcelona to sign Andre Gomes on a permanent basis.

The midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell at Goodison Park last season, prompting competition for his signature.

But according to the Liverpool Echo , a deal to tie him down on Merseyside could be completed within the next 24 hours with contracts already signed.

Gomes headed to the Nou Camp for a fee of around £30m + add ons from Valencia in 2016 after guding Portugal to European Championship glory.

After failing to make an impact with the La Liga giants, he flourished for the Toffees in the Premier League last season, making 29 appearances after making his debut in late October.

Tottenham and West Ham have been amongst those thought to be attempting to hijack the permanent move, but Gomes is now set to commit his future to Marco Silva's side.

The Toffees have already confirmed the signing of Jonas Lossl on a free transfer from Huddersfield and Gomes will now become their second summer signing.

Manager Silva hailed Gomes towards the back end of the Premier League season and confirmed they wanted to keep him as a result of how well he had settled at the club.

Silva said: “If it was in our hands, we would possibly move faster because it is impossible to be more happy with Andre than we are in this moment.

“Everything he is doing, his performances, how he is enjoying it, how he has settled in our dressing room as a man and as a professional, it is all quality."

They were unable to secure a permanent deal in January but after biding their time it is now set to happen and boost their midfield options ahead of next season.

Gomes formed a superb partnership with Idrissa Gueye which the Toffees will hope can be the backbone of an improved season.
