Everson Griffen wants to ‘be a Viking for life’

Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen had a 2018 season to forget.

There were the personal issues that kept Griffen away from the team for five games, and his performance on the field when he was there wasn’t what we had come to expect from Griffen.

That led to Griffen accepting a contract restructure, a nicer way to say a pay cut, this offseason.

“I had a feeling,” Griffen said via the Pioneer Press. “For me, it was bigger than football. I took it upon myself, and my family, to make the right decision to stay here because I want to be a Viking for life.”

Griffen, 31, has been with the Vikings since they drafted him in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

The Vikings have built something special on the defensive side of the ball. This is a group that geniunely cares about each other and it’s no surprise that Griffen wants to continue his run with the team.

In his time with the Vikings, Griffen has piled up 66.5 career sacks and has appeared in three Pro Bowls. Those 66.5 sacks rank fourth in team history, 19 behind Jared Allen for third.
