Everson Griffen should be ‘Plan B’ for Titans if Jadeveon Clowney signs elsewhere

The Tennessee Titans showed they might be pushing all of their chips to the middle of the table for Jadeveon Clowney after clearing cap space by trading Jurrell Casey to the Denver Broncos.

However, if that falls through, they need to have a strong backup plan to fill the void left by moving Casey.

That “Plan B” should come in the form of defensive end Everson Griffen, who recently announced that he was parting ways with the Minnesota Vikings, the team he has spent his entire career with.

The 32-year-old totaled eight sacks last season and has finished with double-digit sacks three times during his career. The four-time Pro Bowler has also played in 15 games or more in eight of 10 seasons.

Granted, he doesn’t have the same name recognition as Clowney, but he’s still a very solid player who would complete what would be a strong group upfront when combined with Jeffery Simmons and DaQuan Jones.

He’d also come a lot cheaper, which would help the Titans remain active in free agency.

While Griffen is no doubt a good secondary option to have in case things don’t work out with Clowney, general manager Jon Robinson is undoubtedly going to get a lot of flak for trading away Casey without first having secured the 27-year-old to replace him.
