Defensive end Everson Griffen has stated he is leaving the Minnesota Vikings and that makes him a potential target for the Seattle Seahawks.
Two days ago, Griffen said farewell to the Vikings organization and its fans on his social media accounts.
“While it is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye, I leave Minnesota in the best physical and mental shape I have ever been and have many Pro Bowl seasons to come,” he said. “Wherever my next stop is, I will always be grateful to and cheering for the Vikings. Thank you all for the love, support and memories.”
The Seahawks have still not come to an agreement with defensive end Jadeveon Clowney on a long-term contract and could have interest in Griffen. They re-signed Jarran Reed to a two-year deal and brought back veteran Bruce Irvin to bolster the pass rush. However, they will still need someone who can consistently create pressure from the outside and sack the quarterback. Griffen had eight sacks and 24 QB hits in 2019, so he may still be capable of that even at 32 years old.
Clowney may be the more sensible option, as he is several years younger than Griffen and will be entering his prime. However, if the Seahawks cannot re-sign him, expect them to pursue someone in the mold of Griffen.
