Events aiming to make us feel good in February

A live gig, craft workshops, meditation sessions and a feel-good shopping fair are taking place this month to help us feel good.

Amanda McKinlay is behind the Feel Good February month and has organised lots of fun events.

She runs the Butterfly Room which provides affordable access to well-being practices, such as meditation, mindfulness and holistic pain management.

Pre-pandemic, she ran a Wellbeing Weekend in February 2019 and is delighted to have organised an expanded programme in 2021.

She said: “The Wellbeing Weekend has really grown arms and legs!

“I feel because of the last couple of years, people have had so much to deal with. Any opportunity for people to come together and do something for themselves will help.

“Hopefully there’s something on the programme for everyone.”

Amanda is particularly looking forward to the gig by Phillipa Hanna on Friday, February 11 who she first saw supporting Wet Wet Wet eight years ago.

She said: “Philippa is a widely respected singer-songwriter who has toured with Little Mix, Wet Wet Wet and Lionel Ritchie amongst many others so it’s very exciting that she’s coming to Paisley.

“To get someone of her standing doing a ‘pay what you can’ gig is a huge deal. Live music is something people have really missed.

“I’ve been a fan of her for years. She’s a Christian singer but I always say it’s Christian with a small c, it’s more spiritual than that. My younger brother loves heavy metal bands like Slipknot and even he likes her!”

Amanda said she’s making sure event numbers are restricted so that people can feel safe going to them.

“I know people can feel a bit edgy and nervous going out again and I want them to feel safe.

“We planned this before restrictions lifted so we’ve just kept it small rather than increase the numbers.

“We also have some online events if people don’t feel comfortable coming out.”

Events start on Wednesday, February 2 with an online meditation hour and there’s also a mindful crafting workshop, stitchery afternoon, coffee and connections and a craft fair over the month.

They are taking place in the Butterfly Room which is inside What If on Moss Street; Brew cafe and Life Church.
