Evening Standard Comment: London’s Ulez drives rise in e-scooters

Toxic air blights the lives of far too many in our city. That is why we supported the Mayor’s decision to expand London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone from last month.

The move already seems to be paying dividends. Data shows that the number of new users hiring e-sctooters rose by 30 per cent in the week following the expansion of the Ulez, as reported by three operators involved in the trial.

During the same period, the total number of journeys made using TfL-approved e-scooters rose by nearly 10 per cent.

E-scooters may not be an option for everyone, but every little helps as part of Sadiq Khan’s aim to have 80 per cent of journeys made by active or sustainable forms of transport by 2041.
