Evening Standard appoints Charles Yardley as its new chief executive officer

The Evening Standard has today appointed Charles Yardley as its new chief executive.

Mr Yardley joins the Evening Standard from Forbes, where he was SVP managing director of Europe.

In a 14-year career with Forbes he oversaw the launch of ForbesLife.com, a digital extension of the company’s luxury lifestyle brand. Mr Yardley has also held senior roles at the Financial Times and London free sheet City A.M.

Mr Yardley will start his new role on June 15.

Mr Yardley said: “There has never been a more powerful and important time for the media to accurately depict the world’s affairs.

“Through times of crisis and uncertainty, the Evening Standard remains resilient and a central role for Londoners, and the UK, through its trusted and well-respected journalism. I look forward to working with the innovative and progressive team at the Evening Standard to reinforce the brand within culture and celebrate the importance of reliable journalism."

Evgeny Lebedev, the owner of the Evening Standard, added: “We are delighted to have Charles join the Evening Standard at a crucial time for the business, and our capital city.

“His leadership, insight, and experience, across both print and digital media, will ensure that we continue to navigate these challenging times confidently and successfully.

“London is the greatest city on earth and the Evening Standard has an important role to play in the lives of those who live in it and visit. We’re excited for what’s to come under Charles’ leadership.”

The Evening Standard has 1.1 million daily print readers and a global monthly online readership of 27.9 million unique browsers.
