Evening bus services withdrawn 'until further notice' in part of Newcastle after vandal attacks

Stagecoach has cancelled its evening bus services in an area of Newcastle ’s West End “until further notice” after repeated vandal attacks.

The bus company said four routes would be withdrawn from Blakelaw Road and Cragston Avenue due to “numerous windows being broken” in the area.

Services 6, 7, X87 & X88 will be omitting this section of the route as of 7.30pm on Friday, March 26, “until further notice”.

The decision will be reviewed after two weeks.

A Stagecoach spokesperson said: “We would like to reassure customers that the decision to withdraw services has not been taken lightly but is necessary in order to protect the safety and wellbeing towards our valued customers and staff.

“After 1930 hours, services X87/X88 will diverted via Ponteland Road in both directions and will serve all stops on the diversion. Services 6/7 will operate direct onto Kenton Lane, east/west to and from Etal Lane. Services will operate as normal at all other times.

“Stagecoach would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this decision and would like to sincerely thank customers for their patience and understanding.

“Customers are advised to please check back on this service update page and on the @StagecoachNE Twitter page at frequent intervals.”
