'Even our street adverts are trolling us' Glasgow reacts as Brexit day arrives

At 11pm tonight, the UK will officially leave the European Union, more than three bumpy years after the referendum result back on June 23, 2016.

The response throughout the country has been mixed, but in Scotland, which voted remain by 62% in the EU referendum, the response has been more sombre.

In Glasgow, two events will take place to mark the historic day. A pro-EU rally, dubbed Leave The Light On, will take place on the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall steps from 10.30pm tonight.

Meanwhile, a Brexit day celebration event will take place in George Square, also from 10.30pm.

Although opinions are clearly divided plenty of Glaswegians haven't been shy in expressing their opinion, with many lamenting the outcome.

Today, the city's iconic Duke of Wellington statue was spotted wearing a variation on his usual orange traffic cone headgear.

Instead, the Duke can be seen sporting a traffic cone bedecked in the blue and yellow stars of the EU flag.

On social media, the responses have covered everything from sadness to hope...but more often than not, it's been with our usual Glaswegian sense of humour.

Some pointed out that even the street adverts seemed to think Brexit was a terrible idea...

While others couldn't resist the EU pun opportunities (we don't blame them).

There was also plenty of celebrating the uniquely Glaswegian attitude that the city has taken for Brexit day.

Others used their artistic ability to make a statement about the big day.

Meanwhile, some people's responses were more emotional.
