Even iconic Perth statue is wearing a face covering

Perth and Kinross residents are being urged to wear face coverings to help fight the coronavirus pandemic - and a local landmark is even getting in on the act.

David Annand's 'Nae Day Sae Dark' statue on Perth High Street is now sporting a mask to get the message across.

And although the statue will not catch COVID-19, it comes as a timely reminder as cases begin the rise.

The statue is a celebration of Perth poet William Soutar's, whose poem of the same name is engraved on the inside of the ring.

Thirty-nine people in the region tested positive for COVID-19 in the week leading up to October 17, according to Public Health Scotland.

A further 63 positive tests were reported in Tayside on Monday (October 19).

The news comes as Police Scotland told the Perthshire Advertiser that residents need to take personal responsibility for wearing face coverings.
