Even Drew Sample was surprised the Bengals took him so early

The Cincinnati Bengals made Washington tight end Drew Sample the No. 52 pick of the 2019 NFL draft.

Meaning, Sample was a second-round pick the Bengals scooped up after trading back 10 spots.

And even Sample is surprised he came off the board so early.

WCPO’s Laurel Pfahler provided the commentary above and it is rather funny, at least.

Our instant analysis and official grade, linked below, pointed out that Sample was an interesting fit in the offense but was a questionable value, at least based on the consensus opinion on his draft stock.

That seems to align with what Sample and his representatives thought, too.
