Sydney golfer Andrew Evans cancelled his flight home to celebrate after finally breaking through to win the Queensland Open.
It took a decade of trying, but the 35-year-old won his first PGA Tour of Australasia title in style, shooting a seven-under 65 at Pelican Waters to finish at 18 under and triumph by two shots.
"Flight home cancelled...I'm filling this with XXXX," said Evans. "This is unreal...I never thought this day would happen."
Cool and controlled all day, he made seven final-round birdies as he won from Gold Coast-based Deyen Lawson (66), Newcastle's Blake Windred (70) and Melbourne's Bryden Macpherson (68), who tied for second.
Evans was glad to shed a hurtful tag after he finished second to Peter Senior at the 2015 Australian Masters at Huntingdale - where he tied with an amateur Bryson DeChambeau and John Senden.
"That week was great but unfortunately a lot of people just remember the rushed three-footer I missed on the last green which didn't mean anything," said Evans.
"People said I choked so that was tough to get over."
He added: "I think I'm a good player but without something like this to your career you are kinda just another player. It's pretty sweet to get over the line."
