Evangelos Marinakis warned of 'deep and troubling' Nottingham Forest issue by BBC pundit

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been accused of 'throwing money' at the Reds during the summer transfer window in the belief that it will save them from relegation back to the Championship by Premier League pundit Garth Crooks.

The criticism of Marinakis comes less than 48 hours after Forest were humbled at home by fellow newly-promoted side Bournemouth. The 3-2 reversal was the club's first Premier League fixture since transfer deadline day saw the Reds confirm their 19th, 20th and 21st and final signings of the summer.

In comparison, their opponents welcomed just six arrivals to the south coast during the window but did see just one notable player depart in Gary Cahill, who was released at the end of his contract, as opposed to the seven senior players that permanently departed the City Ground since the end of last season, not to mention the five loanees that did not return.

In naming Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing in his top-flight team of the week, Crooks turned his attention to the Reds and their transfer activity. "As for Forest, they have a deep and troubling issue taking place at the City Ground," the pundit's column for the BBC reads.

"They seem to have an owner who thinks, by simply throwing money at a Premier League club, he can save it from relegation. I can name him numerous clubs that have tried that and lived to regret it."
