SAN JOSE, Calif. _ Evander Kane keeps finding the scoresheet and Martin Jones keeps making timely saves.
Throw in some contributions from the depth forwards, and suddenly the San Jose Sharks are playing some of their most inspired hockey of the season.
Kane scored twice, Antti Suomela and Stefan Noesen each had a goal and an assist and Jones made 25 saves as the Sharks topped the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 on Tuesday to improve to 3-0-0 on their six-game homestand.
Noesen's goal at the 5:48 mark of the third period gave the Sharks a 3-2 lead. Kane scored 50 seconds later, beating Leafs goalie Jack Campbell with a wrist shot to the glove side for his team-leading 24th goal of the season.
Jones took care of the rest, as he made seven saves in the third period. He's started all three games so far on this homestand, also backstopping the Sharks to wins over New Jersey and Pittsburgh.
This is the Sharks' first three-game win streak since Nov. 21-25 when they beat Vegas, the New York Islanders and Los Angeles.
Kane now has three goals and three assists so far on this homestand, which continues Thursday against the Minnesota Wild.
Jones stopped four of six shots in the second period as Auston Matthews scored at the 2:48 mark and Mitch Marner scored on a nifty individual play at the 17:27 mark.
Jones, though, also made a spectacular stop on Zach Hyman, as he stuck a leg out to deny a goal on a Leafs rush.
Just 66 seconds after Matthews scored, the Sharks came back to take a 2-1 lead, as Suomela ended a 25-game goal-less drought with a sharp angle shot that got past Campbell. The Sharks outshot the Leafs 18-6 in the second period.
The Sharks won the special teams battle in the first period. Jones had 14 saves, including four when the Sharks were killing a tripping penalty to Noah Gregor.
Thirty seconds after Travis Dermott took an interference penalty, the Sharks snapped an 0-for-8 streak with the man advantage. Brent Burns took a pass from Logan Couture and fired a shot on net that Kane redirected on net past Campbell.
Kane also scored the Sharks' first goal Saturday when they put forth what was arguably their most complete effort of the season. Five players scored and Jones made 30 saves in a 5-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Leafs came into Tuesday on three-game win streak, which included a 4-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
"Toronto, very similar to Pittsburgh in their systems and personnel and how they like to play," Sharks interim coach Bob Boughner said Tuesday morning. "We talked about what we need to do to have success."
