Evander Holyfield ready to come out of retirement at 57 to fight Riddick Bowe again

Boxing legend Evander Holyfield wants to return to the ring to face Riddick Bowe for the fourth time - aged 57.

The duo had three fights in the 1990s, with Bowe triumphing in 1992 and 1995, with Holyfield taking the middle bout in 1993.

Holyfield and Bowe, 52, have turned their rivalry into friendship since their retirements but both are keen to go at it again.

They had been touted to fight in Japan but that plan has apparently been scrapped.

Former undisputed cruiserweight and heavyweight champion Holyfield hasn't fought since 2011 - when he beat Brian Nielsen by way of knock out.

Bowe's wait to fight again has been even longer, with his victory over Gene Pukall coming in 2008.

Holyfield told World Boxing News: “I had something set up in Japan that they were talking about doing, but now nobody is saying anything.

“Hopefully it will happen but I had nobody talk to me lately about it. If we do it then fine, if we don’t I’m good.

“I wanted to do it with Riddick Bowe. We’re friends. And the kind of money they’re talking about would be pretty good for three rounds.

“Yes, I can do that. I’m ready.”

If Holyfield was to return the fight could not currently take place in either New York or Las Vegas due to suspensions from the Nevada Athletic and New York State Athletic commissions.

The Real Deal was banned due to "diminishing skills" although he passed a battery of medical tests.

Holyfield, whose son Evan is now a professional boxer, has been sparring with Andy Ruiz recent ahead of his rematch with Anthony Joshua.

He said: "Andy Ruiz Jr really can fight. He has fast hands and can really hit hard. But don’t nobody seem to know it.

"Everyone is thinking it’s a fluke (that he won the first time), but the guy showed he can get up from being knocked down. He got took down and got back up to win."
