Evan McPherson’s epic rookie season continues with big award

When it comes to the Cincinnati Bengals, most of the attention goes to big hitters like Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase.

But for rookie Evan McPherson, he’s starting to become as big of a heavyweight amongst his position league-wide.

Case in point, McPherson just reeled in the Special Teams Player of the Month award for December.

During that stretch, McPherson totaled 35 points, going 9-of-11 on field goals with three coming from 45 or more yards away. He set a Bengals franchise record with a 58-yard-field goal against Denver.

On the season, the fifth-round rookie leads the NFL in field goals of 50-plus yards (9) and overall is 26-of-31.

More important than anything else, the confidence coaches have in the rookie more than justifies using a pick on the top player at the position. From the looks of it, McPherson is here to stay for a long, long time.
