Evan Ferguson bags assist and disallowed goal on Brighton debut in FA Cup win over West Brom

Evan Ferguson bagged an assist and had a goal disallowed as he marked his senior Brighton debut with a game-changing substitute performance in the FA Cup third round win over West Brom.

The former Bohemians striker was introduced for the final 14 minutes of normal time and laid on the equaliser for his fellow sub, Polish midfielder Jakub Moder just four minutes later.

18-year-old Ferguson found the net with a header late in the first half of extra time but was called back for offside as Moder returned the favour with a pinpoint cross.

It didn’t matter in the end as Brighton ran out 2-1 winners thanks to Neal Maupay’s finish from another Moder cross moments before the Bettystown man’s disallowed effort.

Ferguson, who made his Bohemians debut against Chelsea at the age of 14 in 2019, has been pulling up trees for the Seagulls' under-23 side in Premier League 2.

Ireland under-21 regular Ferguson was awarded the club's goal of the month award in November for his stunning solo effort in a 2-1 defeat to Everton.

He has long been flagged for a fast-track to the first team and, with Brighton 1-0 down late in their FA Cup tie with West Brom, Graham Potter gave him his debut.

And he was barely on the pitch when he side-footed the ball coolly into the path of Polish international Moder to beat Sam Johnstone.

Potter’s substitutions paid dividends as, after linking up for the equaliser, Modern laid on Maupay’s extra-time winner to put the Seagulls in the fourth round draw.
