Evaluating trade value of each of the Bengals’ draft picks

The Cincinnati Bengals aren’t strangers to moving around on draft day.

With 11 picks in the 2019 NFL draft it seems likely director of player personnel Duke Tobin will look to move around again. This could mean trading down from No. 11 in the first round to jumping around in any round if the front office wants to jump up and grab a prospect it likes.

Understanding the value of draft picks is a good way to follow along and theorize some of the moves the Bengals could make.

Luckily for fans, a numerical value system crafted by Jimmy Johnson still works for today’s NFL. Things have changed in various forms since it was created, but the value chart is roughly accurate:

On paper, a trade will match up the numerical value for both teams. For example, the Bengals hold five sixth-round picks, with 210, 211 and 213 only adding up to 19.4. Good pieces to sprinkle into other moves, on their own they won’t do much.

The chart is a good reference point to thinking about Bengals deals, at the least.
