Evacuations near Firhill stadium in Glasgow after car crashes into building causing gas leak fears

Homes have been evacuated in Glasgow tonight after a two car crash which may have caused a gas leak.

The smash on Firhill Road in the Maryhill area of the city happened at around 4.55pm.

Cops and fire crews are currently on the scene after one car struck a building and may have compromised a gas pipe.

As a result officers from Police Scotland have taken the measure to remove people from their homes in the area as a precaution.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "At around 4.55pm today police were called to a two-car road crash on Firhill Road.

"It appears a car has struck a building and as a result flats nearby have been evacuated while they deal with the situation."

The incident is believed to have happened close to Partick Thistle's Firhill stadium. Following the crash all youth academy sessions have been cancelled.

A Thistle Weir Youth Academy post read: "Please note that due to a road traffic accident on Firhill Rd access to the stadium is currently restricted and the academy gym sessions for tonight are now unfortunately cancelled.

"Police Scotland have advised that the road may be closed for some time and as such our sessions are cancelled. Apologies for any inconvience."
