Evacuations after World War II explosive allegedly found in garage during raid

Police have allegedly discovered a World War II explosive device while raiding a Central Coast property as part of a child abuse material investigation.

Brisbane Water police officers launched inquiries into a Narara man's alleged possession of child abuse material in May.

Extensive investigations led detectives to attend a home to execute a search warrant about 8am on Monday, June 15.

During the search, police allegedly found and seized several electronic items including hard drives, computers, USB drives and mobile phones.

Police were advised during the raid that a defused World War II explosive device was inside the garage at the home.

Police evacuated the property and neighbouring homes while Australian Defence Force officers attended and seized the device for disposal.

Police arrested a 54-year-old man at the scene and took him to Gosford Police Station, where he was charged with possessing child abuse material.

He was refused bail to face court on Tuesday, June 16.
