Eutopia: New £1.5 million club to open in Barking with 4,000 capacity

A new 4,000 capacity music, arts and cultural space is to open in east London after a £1.5 million refurbishment of three interlinked warehouses and a courtyard.

Called Eutopia, the site is a former industrial estate, a multi-purpose facility next to the River Roding in Barking.

An announcement sent to the Standard said the space is a reimagining of “raw architectural heritage with contemporary design”. An enormous sound system has been added alongside raised dancefloors, lighting displays and staging areas.

The result is a multi-dimensional venue built for club events, festivals, exhibitions and local community events, with promoters confirming a long line-up of acts to begin on Halloween, with Sankeys, Space Ibiza and Zulu Nation among them.

Eutopia has been divided to comprise a sweeping courtyard and four large-scale arenas. The Yard is a 1,700 capacity space by the river with a pergola installation and elevated viewing areas, with lots of plants, art installations and street food traders.

Inside, the three warehouses each offer a different vibe, with two 800-capacity rooms and another with room for 1,200. All have been designed with club nights, concerts, and brand launches in mind, as well as exhibitions and more intimate gatherings.

The new site has been launched by a group of four music and arts veterans: Michael Hughes (Garage City, Back to 95 and Groove Odyssey); Nikki Gordon (co-founder of We Are FSTVL, former Head of Ministry of Sound); Will Paterson, a veteran promoter behind over 20 festivals and 11 London venues; and Tom Ranger (programmer behind Dreamland Margate, Oval Space, Annabel’s, Percolate Live and Live Nation’s Soundcrash division). They say they’ve “built [Eutopia] from the bones of East London’s industrial past, looking firmly to the future.”

The full list of promoters confirmed for the first wave of programming includes: 51st State Festival; AEG; Appetite; Back to 95; Breakin Science; Centerforce; Dance On Arrival; HOWL; Moon Dance; Recess; Sankeys; Space Ibiza; World Dance and Zulu Nation.

It is expected the club will play everything from minimal and house to bass, Afro, amapiano and more.

The news should be happy news for London’s club-goers. The clubbing scene in London is presently under threat, as the result of harsh economic headwinds, changing tastes and licensing issues. One in five London late night bars and clubs have shut since 2020, and earlier this month it was announced that Corsica Studios, one of London’s best clubs, would shut in March 2026.
