Commuters are facing major disruption at Euston Station tonight due to a loss of power on overhead electric wires.

Huge crowds have gathered at the station at rush hour as commuters seek to go home for the weekend.

Northern Trains said in a statement on Twitter: "Unfortunately a loss of power to the overhead electric wires near London Euston is causing major disruption to journeys across the entire network.

"It is also having a knock on effect on our crew being able to get to jobs. Sorry for the inconvenience."

One commuter @nirateche tweeted that it took her two hours to get to Euston Station from her workplace in London.

"Anyway, finally got to Euston, the level of toxic commute has reached an all new high when I realised gates into the railway station was shut and a huge crowd was waiting to get in", she tweeted.

She then posted a video of the scene that met her when she arrived at Euston.

This is the fifth day of disruption in a row on the line from London Euston to Birmingham and beyond.

There have also been reports of train services being cancelled to and from the station.

London Northwestern Railway will be running a revised timetable over the weekend.

This comes as West Midlands Trains employees are set to go on strike from November 16.
