Nineteen-year-old Broadmeadows man Jaymes Todd has pleaded guilty to raping and murdering aspiring comedian Eurydice Dixon in Melbourne's inner north earlier this year.
Ms Dixon's body was found by a passer-by on a soccer field in the Princes Hill sporting precinct on June 13.
Todd was arrested later that day after handing himself in to police.
He appeared via video link in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to the rape and murder of Ms Dixon, as well as attempted rape and sexual assault.
Ms Dixon, 22, was walking home from a gig in the early hours of the morning when she was allegedly attacked by Todd.
Todd followed Ms Dixon as she began to walk home from Flinders Street train station, according to a summary released by the court.
The summary stated Todd remained a constant distance behind Ms Dixon as she walked, speeding up or slowing down to match her walking pace.
Ms Dixon left Flinders Street station just after 11:00pm, and headed north up Swanston Street through the CBD before crossing to Elizabeth Street.
Throughout her walk, the summary stated Todd was about "15 to 20 seconds behind" her.
Once Ms Dixon arrived at Princes Park in Carlton, she began to walk across the soccer pitches near Royal Parade, and had crossed two pitches when she was attacked by Todd at the third pitch, according to the summary.
A post-mortem examination found strangulation was the cause of Ms Dixon's death.
After Ms Dixon's body was found, CCTV images of Todd were released by police and circulated in the news, prompting him to contact the Broadmeadows police station to tell them he had seen his image on the news but was not involved in Ms Dixon's death.
Police then arrested and later charged Todd over Ms Dixon's death.
Magistrate Sue Cameron ordered Todd to appear in the Victorian Supreme Court on November 13 for a directions hearing.
