Eurovision winner Måneskin's lead singer passes drugs test after snorting claims

The lead singer of Eurovision winning band Måneskin has passed his drugs test.

Damiano David did not take illegal drugs live on the competition's grand finale on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old could be seen lowering his head behind a bucket of drinks while the presenters interviewed the contestants, leading many viewers to accuse him of taking drugs.

After Twitter exploded with the allegations, the band took to their official Instagram account to deny Damiano had done drugs.

They said: "We really are AGAINST drugs and we never used cocaine. We are ready to get [tested], cause we have nothing to hide.

"We are here to play our music and we are so happy about our Eurovision win and we wanna thank everyone for supporting us.

"Rock'n Roll never dies. We love you."

After David underwent a voluntary test, bosses at Eurovision confirmed that no drugs had been taken.

Organisers slammed the false accusations which they claimed had 'overshadowed the spirit' of the event.

The statement read: "Following allegations of drug use in the Green Room of the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final on Saturday 22 May, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), as requested by the Italian delegation, has conducted a thorough review of the facts, including checking all available footage. A drug test was also voluntarily undertaken earlier today by the lead singer of the band Måneskin which has returned a negative result seen by the EBU.

"No drug use took place in the Green Room and we consider the matter closed.

"We are alarmed that inaccurate speculation leading to fake news has overshadowed the spirit and the outcome of the event and unfairly affected the band.

"We wish to congratulate Måneskin once again and wish them huge success. We look forward to working with our Italian member Rai on producing a spectacular Eurovision Song Contest in Italy next year."

The Italian group were crowned winners on Saturday night after Switzerland's entry Gjon's Tears and France's Barbara Pravi battled for the top spot after receiving top marks from European juries.

But after fan votes were added to their total, Italy got an incredible 524 points and secured their place at the top of the leaderboard.

Måneskin – consisting of lead singer Damiano, guitarist Victoria De Angelis, musician Thomas Raggi and drummer Ethan Torchio - were seated together and alongside other contestants at the live final.

Cameras showed Malta contestant Destiny speaking to one of the show's presenters before suddenly cutting Måneskin's table.

In footage that went viral on social media, Damiano can be seen lowering his head behind a bucket of drinks before jolting his head up quickly.

Speaking at the press conference after their win, Damiano said: "I don't use drugs."

"Tomas broke a glass with his leg," he continued, saying he was helping clear up the wreckage.

He added: "I don't use cocaine… please don't say that."

A statement from Eurovision said at the time: "We are aware of the speculation surrounding the video clip of the Italian winners of the Eurovision Song Contest in the Green Room last night.

"The band have strongly refuted the allegations of drug use and the singer in question will take a voluntary drug test after arriving home.

"This was requested by them last night but could not be immediately organised by the EBU.

"The band, their management and head of delegation have informed us that no drugs were present in the Green Room and explained that a glass was broken at their table and it was being cleared by the singer.

"The EBU can confirm broken glass was found after an on site check. We are still looking at footage carefully and will update with further information in due course."
