Eurovision viewers left 'confused' by Serbia's performance

Eurovision is known for its crazy and wacky performances, however, sometimes the performances are not well received by viewers. This was the case for Serbia at Eurovision 2023.

Luke Black began his song Samo Mi Se Spava lying in a shell/plant kind of thing and many viewers also thought he was a bit off-key too.

But Luke is known as the "Serbian pop alchemist" in his homeland and internationally he’s proving to be one of his country’s most sought-after exports.

In the last 12 months he’s performed both a sold-out tour in China and created a techno-opera style show in Berlin’s Berghain, the world’s most famous nightclub for electronic music. Creating fresh crossover melodies, Luke uses classic pop influences as his canvas which he then paints over with experimental, electronic and indie sounds. This reflects the broad spectrum of his influences which include Queen, Elton John, Stromae, Lady Gaga, Maria Callas, and Eartha Kitt.

Despite all this, one Eurovision viewer said: "Serbia presenting the most disappointing fight scene in history there. #Eurovision"

Another added: "How do you know when someone’s crossed the line from singing to bleating?" And: "#Serbia : Has started off key? Yikes. The mech and gaming references far too forced." A fourth said: "#serbia that was pants. #Eurovision".

A fifth viewer said: "Missed a bit and catching up and honestly, Serbia... I have many thoughts and feelings and am honestly confused."

Mae Muller is representing the UK at Eurovision 2023 with her song I Wrote a Song. The 25-year-old singer and songwriter from London pens honest, sassy pop music. Mae has released two EPs, has millions of views on YouTube and TikTok has over 2 billion streams. You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.
