Eurovision Song Contest transport details being 'put in place'

Details surrounding transport for the Eurovision Song Contest are expected in the coming weeks.

Liverpool is set to welcome thousands of fans from across the world to celebrate the biggest night in the music calendar. The EuroVillage alone will hold a minimum of 10,000 people nightly from May 7 with the M&S Bank Arena housing 9,000 fans for each night of the live broadcast shows.

Questions have been raised among fans as to whether or not they can expect additional transportation services to accommodate the demand of fans wanting to journey to the city.

Andrew Campbell, the principal media manager of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, told the ECHO there are indeed plans in place to support fans throughout the contest.

He said: "As with all major events, we're putting public transport plans in place to move people around efficiently and safely.

"These are still being finalised and details will be released in the coming weeks." Andrew did not confirm if the additional transport was related to rail, coach or other services.

The first night of Eurovision celebrations kicks off on May 1 with the EuroFestival. Closer to the time of the contest, the EuroClub and EuroVillage will welcome guests on May 5.
