Eurovision: The Story Of Fire Saga star gatecrashes contest to demand Jaja Ding Dong

Eurovision fans got a surprise on Saturday night when one of the stars of spoof film The Story of Fire Saga beamed in to the contest to demand the Jaja Ding Dong song.

Icelandic actor Hannes Óli Ágústsson featured in the four hour live final of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night in character as Olaf Yohansson.

The actor was reprising his role from the 2020 Netflix comedy film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga – which stars Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as hapless contestants in the singing competition.

In the course of the film, Will and Rachel’s characters, Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdóttir perform a song called Jaja Ding Dong.

And Hannes’s character, Olaf, heckles them at a concert to demand they play their hit song.

Beaming in to present the Icelandic jury vote results on Saturday night, Olaf, perhaps unsurprisingly, demanded to hear Jaja Ding Dong.

Asked for Iceland’s results by 2021 contest hosts Chantal Janzen and Jan Smit, Olaf declared his points went to Jaja Ding Dong.

His appearance provoked huge laughs from the live studio audience – and UK commentator Graham Norton.

The veteran Eurovision commentator remarked: “Normally annoying, but I find this quite funny” as Olaf jokingly sabotaged proceedings.

Iceland’s points ultimately went to Switzerland – and their contestant Gjon’s Tears, who ultimately ended in third place behind France’s Barbara Pravi, and winners Maneskin from Italy.

Olaf’s appearance was a hit with viewers at home who took to Twitter to praise his inclusion in proceedings.

One viewer tweeted: “Absolutely top move from Iceland. What a great nation.”

And another wrote: “OMG, the Jaja Ding Dong guy showed up for Iceland” alongside a crying-with-laughter emoji.
