Eurovision Song Contest: Amanda Holden 'thrown under the bus' by Hannah Waddingham

BBC viewers have claimed that Eurovision Song Contest host Hannah Waddingham "threw" Amanda Holden "under the bus" during the first semi-final. The Sex Education and Ted Lasso star is co-hosting this year's Song Contest, which is being held in Liverpool, with Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon and Ukrainian singer Julia Sanina.

The trio of presenters are fronting the semi-finals, the first of which took place last night, May 9, with a second due to air tomorrow (May 11). Graham Norton will join them on Saturday for the all-important Grand Final, reports the Liverpool Echo.

As Hannah, Alesha and Julia introduced the first live show of the week to viewers, actress Hannah explained the voting rules for the semi-final in French. "You see Europe, some of us Brits do bother to learn another language," Hannah said.

Some viewers assumed that the Benidorm star's comment was "shade" towards Amanda, who presented the votes for the UK during the 2021 Grand Final. Two years ago, during her presenting stint for the legendary song contest, Amanda infamously said: "Bon soir. Goedenavond.

"That is 'good evening' in French and Dutch although I've got absolutely no idea which is which."

Fans were quick to point out the suspected shade on Twitter. "Hannah Waddingham throwing Amanda Holden under Le bus, quality shade," wrote Luke.

"Hannah Waddingham's French somewhat making up for the existence of Amanda Holden," said Vikki Jane. "Amazing start, Liverpool."

FKADanEv tweeted: "Hannah Waddingham throwing shade at Amanda Holden already?! I love her so much!!!!"
