Eurovision singer James Newman hits back at Piers Morgan after 'rude' remark

Piers Morgan didn’t hold back during Eurovision at the weekend, making his thoughts on the UK’s entry very clear on Twitter.

The TV presenter and journalist lashed out after the UK failed to gain any points with the singer-songwriter James Newman' entry.

The Brit-winning songwriter performed his song Embers on the stage in Rotterdam, Netherlands but found himself at the bottom of the leader board after failing to secure any votes from the judging panel and voting public.

Snapping back at the result to his 7.9 million followers, Piers tweeted: “The UK didn't get 'nul points' in the Eurovision Song Contest because of some sinister revenge for Brexit.

We got 'nul points' because we had a cr*p song, performed by a cr*p singer who gave a cr*p performance. End.”

The Ex-Good Morning Britain host was met with divided responses.

One wrote: "I disagree it was great to see someone entering the Eurovision with such energy and passion. Well done UK. Appalling we didn't even get a point."

Another added: "It's recently been #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek so think how he would feel reading this. What happened to #BeKind. I'm in two minds about it being political. It's degrading for the UK so show some support."

“It was pitiful! Britain can do so much bloody better. I say bring on Bill Bailey next year.” A third said.

But Newman, who has written songs for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris and Jess Glyn, spoke out for the first time today (May 24) since his defeat.

Responding to Piers, the Lay it all on me writer said: “Hey Piers sorry you didn’t like the song, at least I didn’t storm out! #Eurovision”, referring to Piers' dramatic exit from Good Morning Britain earlier this year.

Newman also has made a statement on Twitter, thanking everyone for their support.

He said:“The thing about song writing is that there is no guarantee that your song will connect with people

“Thank you to all the amazing dedicated fans who have supported me through the whole thing and made it all worth it. Because at the end of the day they are the people who you do this all for you.

“The times when it doesn’t play out how you hoped it might, teach you how to pick yourself up and be stronger.”
