Eurovision semi final acts and songs as 2021 contest kicks off in Rotterdam

After a year off, the Eurovision Song Contest is back and continues on Thursday night with the second of two semi finals.

Thanks to Duncan Laurence triumphing for The Netherlands in 2019 with his song Arcade, this year's event will be in Rotterdam with 39 countries in contention for the coveted world famous crown.

Frontrunners for this year include new bookies favourite Italy, with Switzerland, France and Malta firmly in the reckoning and Malta's representative for 2021 - Destiny - got through Tuesday's first semi with her song Je Me Casse.

Only 10 acts will make it through from Tuesday and Thursday's Eurovision semi finals to join the 'big 5' - United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany and Italy and host country The Netherlands in the line-up for Saturday's final.

The UK is represented in Eurovsion this year by James Newman and his song Embers.

UK viewers will be able to watch both semi finals on BBC Four, with the final following on Saturday on BBC1.

Semi final coverage will be hosted by coverage hosted by Scott Mills, Chelsee Grimes and Sara Cox, who is stepping in for intended presenter Rylan after he fell ill.

And then, as he always does, Graham Norton will take the reins for Saturday's grand finale.
