Eurovision's Käärijä 'feels like a Scouser' as he makes Liverpool admission

Eurovision's Käärijä made a Liverpool admission as he heaped praise on the city.

Finland's representative has been the breakout act of the contest with his party anthem Cha Cha Cha proving to be a hit with fans. The rapper dons a bright neon jacket on stage and booked his place in Saturday's final with an electric performance in the first live show on Tuesday.

Eurovision superfans have since donned his distinctive outfit after wowed fans with his performance in the Eurovillage yesterday. The 29-year-old, whose real name is Jere Pöyhönen, was interviewed on today's edition of Good Morning Britain.

Käärijä told the broadcaster that the warm response he has received has made him feel like he is from the city. He said: "We are not now Finland, we are Liverpool."

Käärijä's look put him at the centre of a hilarious moment this week when a BBC presenter mistook a Eurovision superfan for a contestant. North West Tonight viewers were confused when a presenter claimed she "managed to catch up" with the act.

She asked: "How do you think Liverpool has done out there." The superfan replied: "Incredible. In comparison with the countries that I've been [to] this is better organised, everything is walking distance and it's so friendly. Everything is just so easy around here, it's incredible."

Text appeared under the fans face saying "Käärijä - Finland entrant". TV critic and broadcaster Scott Bryan tweeted about the tv programme and said: "OH MY GOD BBC North West Tonight interviewed a Käärijä fan thinking it was HIM. ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL."
