Eurovision legend Sonia Evans has high hopes for this year’s UK entry Mae Muller and has offered some pearls of wisdom ahead of the grand final.
Incredibly, this year marks 30 years since Sonia finished in second place when she represented the UK in Ireland with her song Better The Devil You Know. So having been there and got the T-shirt, she’s more than qualified.
She will also be making a highly anticipated return to the Eurovision stage during the interval of the grand final in Liverpool on Saturday.
Speaking to the Standard on behalf of Campo Viejo, she said: “I think she has got a pretty good chance. She’s young, she’s down with the kids and I think it’s a great catchy tune.”
“She needs to grab the bull by the horns and just stay calm, stay focused and just enjoy and engage with that camera lens because that means everything; you’ve got less than three minutes to make an impact.”
Sonia also shared her hope that her 12-year-old daughter Grace Rose, who is a “budding singer-songwriter”, might follow in her footsteps one day and take on Eurovision.
She gushed: “Her songwriting is fantastic and she plays the piano – she’s on grade five. Watch out for her because her voice is out of this world.”
Adding: “I know you get mothers who are biased, but I’d tell you if she was rubbish, she’s fantastic.”
