Eurovision 2023: Belfast misses out on chance to host iconic song contest

Belfast has missed out on the chance to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

The shortlist was announced on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 on Friday morning.

It comes as bidding was opened to the UK after it was announced that winners Ukraine would not be able to host the final due to the ongoing conflict.

The seven UK cities which have been shortlisted are Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.

20 cities sent in expressions of interest to host the competition. The UK has hosted the competition eight times to date, including in London, Edinburgh and Brighton.

Belfast councillors met earlier in the week to discuss a potential bid for the event.
