Eurovision 2022: When is it, where to watch it, who's the UK's entry Sam Ryder, and where is it this year?

Eurovision is back for its 66th year, with beautifully camp costumes, snarky Graham Norton commentary, and nul points for the UK set to grace our television screens very soon.

One of the longest-running television programmes, Eurovision has only missed one year - 2020, for obvious reasons - it has participants from all over the continent performing a song in the hopes of taking home the prize for their country, or at the very least, not painfully embarrassing themselves when the voting results come through

Last year's contest took place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, following the country's win at the 2019 contest with the song Arcade by Duncan Laurence.

Italy won last year, with France, Switzerland, Iceland and Ukraine coming in as runners up.

When will the Eurovision Song Contest take place this year?

It will run from Tuesday, May 10, with the finals on Saturday, May 14.

As Italy won last year, with the song Zitti e buoni by Måneskin, the contest will this year take place at the PalaOlimpico Arena in Turin, Italy.

Where can you watch Eurovision in the UK?

The contest's semi-finals will air on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer at 8pm on Tuesday. However, the Eurovision Grand Final will be broadcast on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds from 8pm on Saturday, May 14.

Who is the UK's entry to Eurovision, Sam Ryder?

The UK's entry is Sam Ryder, 32, who rose to fame after posting cover songs on TikTok during the pandemic.

Sam is from Essex, previously ran a vegan café, is still vegan, and will be singing the song Space Man for Eurovision.

In his spare time, he revealed he likes to surf and has previously visited Italy for snowboarding.

He added that he was inspired to learn how to play the guitar after he saw Finnish rock band, Lordi, win Eurovision in 2006.
