Eurovision 2019: Graham Norton makes savage dig at Madonna

Graham Norton couldn't help a snarky dig at Madonna tonight as she got set to perform for the first time at Eurovision .

The pop diva, 60, donned an interesting costume with a pirate-like eyepatch.

Speaking the hosts tonight, she appeared to hit back at criticism as she said: "The one thing that brings me here is the power of music, never underestimate the power of music."

She added: "I'm bringing the heat tonight!"

Is Madonna singing at Eurovision 2019? Pop diva's 'controversial' performance revealed

But Graham quipped: "Madonna, what a trooper, still showing up despite a nasty case of conjunctivitis.

"What a showbiz professional."

The singer's appearance on the show was confirmed just days before tonight's grand final.

Organisers of the contest said earlier this week that the pop diva had not yet signed a contract and that she could not perform without one.

However she was spotted arriving in Israel on Tuesday and was rumoured to be rehearsing in a secret location.

The Mirror confirmed on Thursday that she would be performing and had brought a a 135-strong entourage with her.

Madonna will be performed two songs in the interval during tonight's final - her 1989 hit Like A Prayer and her new single Future with US rapper Quavo.

The star hit Tel Aviv, Israel, with a crew including 25 dancers, 40 backing singers, a director, a choreographer and animators.

And her kit has piled extra pressure on stagehands, with one source saying: “They have enough work as it is with the 41 acts and now she’s adding 30 tonnes of props too.”

Madonna singing Like a Prayer, to mark her hit’s 30th anniversary, could prove controversial.

An insider said: “A song about religious devotion sung in this part of the world, at this time, could be quite incendiary.”
