Eurotunnel invests in lorry zones as it gets ready for a no-deal Brexit

Eurotunnel is ready for Brexit regardless of whether a deal is agreed, the operator behind the Channel Tunnel claimed on Monday as it outlined investments to prevent border delays.

Getlink, formerly known as Eurotunnel, said it has been working with the British and French governments to give the fastest route “no matter the outcome on October 31”, when Britain leaves the EU.

There are about £130 billion of goods passing through the tunnel each year, with vehicles transporting everything from medicine to car parts and clothes.

Getlink provided new details about changes that will come into effect if the UK crashes out of the EU without a deal.

Traders would have to pre-declare all goods they are carrying, something they don’t do currently.

The firm has created new pit stops in Folkestone and Coquelles, where 20 lorries can be checked at a time in a few minutes.

It has also built a 240-space parking zone for UK-bound trucks that require more rigorous checks.
