NEW DELHI: Eurosport announced on Sunday that it had removed commentator Bob Ballard from its coverage of the Paris Olympics. This decision came after Ballard made a sexist comment during the swimming competition on Saturday, following Australia's victory in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay gold.
The comment quickly spread on social media.
In the clip, Ballard remarked, "Well, the women just finishing up. You know what women are like... hanging around, doing their make-up."
Lizzie Simmonds, his co-commentator, immediately criticized the remark, labeling it "outrageous."
AFP quoted an Eurosport statement addressing the issue: "During a segment of Eurosport's coverage last night, commentator Bob Ballard made an inappropriate comment. To that end, he has been removed from our commentary roster with immediate effect."
As of now, Ballard has not issued a public response regarding either his removal or the controversy that his comment has generated.
