European side eyeing move for Cardiff City defender

Cardiff City defender Ciaron Brown has reportedly emerged as a target for Belgian side KV Oostende.

WalesOnline understands Brown has managed to catch the eye of Oostende boss Alexander Blessin, who was recently linked to the vacant manager's job at newly-relegated side Sheffield United.

Sources have also pointed to interest from an unnamed Championship club, but it's understood the player's preference is to stay in the Welsh capital, with Brown understood to be enjoying life in South Wales having had to bide his time for a first team opportunity.

Talks over a new a deal are still ongoing, but an agreement has not yet been reached for the Northern Irish international, who's become a regular for the Bluebirds since his loan spell at Scottish side Livingston was ended prematurely by Mick McCarthy in January.

The 23-year-old has made 12 appearances in the Championship overall this season, but is seemingly facing an uncertain future at the Cardiff City Stadium, with his current deal up this summer, although City do still have the option of another year.

Such has been the level of the centre-back's performances, there has been a suggestion that the club are now looking to tie him down to a longer-term deal, although it seems a breakthrough has not yet arrived.

Even if they manage to keep Brown on, Cardiff are likely to see some departures over the summer as the club faces up to the harsh financial realities of an entire season behind closed doors.

Junior Hoilett has already announced his departure following the expiration of his contract, while question marks are also hanging over the futures of Joe Bennett and Sol Bamba, who are similarly free agents this summer.
