Ayrshire athlete Kayleigh Haggo has today spoken of her pride after adding a European Gold medal to her World Championship ones.
The 22 year-old, from Maybole, clinched gold at the European Para Athletics Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, on Friday.
GB star Kayleigh lit up the Women’s RR3 100m final and completely dominated from the start.
And she crossed the finishing line in a time of 18.11 secs, a lifetime best for the distance.
Kayleigh’s trailblazing time is also expected to be ratified as a new world record for the RR3 100m.
Kayleigh, who is a four times RR2 World Record holder said afterwards: “I’ve been working really hard so for that to pay off means so much.
“To break the world record here at these Championships, I can’t put into words how much it means to me and I couldn’t be happier!
“Huge thanks to everyone who has supported me on this journey and to John Owens for his coaching.”
Last month Kayleigh embarked on her first event of the year and she picked up from where she left off in 2020.
The talented athlete was one of a number of Scots given special exemption to compete in Coventry, at an event organised by British Athletics ahead of selection decisions for the WPA Europeans in Poland.
Kayleigh also delivered another world record-breaking performance in RaceRunning, setting a new PB and World best time of 81:31 for the RR2 400m to add to her already impressive list of achievements.
That victory completed an amazing 48 hours Kayleigh after she had savoured success in the Sport category at the Young Scots Awards (virtual) ceremony.
