European nightclub rules indicate what future for Coppers and other Irish spots could be like

Nightclubs across Europe have begun opening again but the changes inside are stark.

Spain and Netherlands are two countries that have reached the nightlife opening step before Ireland and their set up could be a sign of things to come.

An official date for Irish nightclubs returning has not yet been set but could be expected in phase four in mid-July.

And the likes of Coppers, Diceys, Reardens and more may have to implement similar rules to what we are seeing abroad.

Here's a look at some of the measures across Europe;

Goodbye dance-floors

The main feature of nightclubs is not allowed in Spain with a "no dancing" rule for all clubs that open.

The formal order states: "When there is a space on the premises for a dancefloor or similar, it can be used to install tables or groupings of tables."

It then adds the dancefloors cannot be used for their "habitual use."

In the Netherlands some clubbers headed to night venues for the first time in months at the weekend but it was a very different experience.

Small circles were laid out on the dancefloor for people to socially distance and they also had to sit in chairs on their own in these circles.

Capacity reductions

Any of the European night spots that have opened have had to lower their capacities to adhere to social distancing.

That will almost definitely be implemented here in Ireland too.

Other guidelines

Other recommendations in Spain include compulsory masks, isolation booths for DJs, more VIP areas to ensure social distancing, traffic light queues at the entrances and temperature checks.

When will Irish guidelines be released?

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said the Government is this week drawing up plans for phase three and four of Ireland's reopening plan.

This will tell the country when nightclubs can open again and potentially under what circumstances.
