European giants AC Milan in talks with Liverpool over how to emulate on and off field transformation

AC Milan have revealed they have been in discussions with Liverpool as they seek to emulate the Reds' successful on and off field model.

The Rossoneri have been in the doldrums for some time having not won the Serie A title since 2011 and have struggled to even qualify for the Champions League - which they haven't won since beating Liverpool in 2007 - most seasons since, not featuring at the top table of European football since 2014.

Milan fans used to their side being one of Italy's and Europe's most successful clubs have grown restless on the club's inability to challenge at home and abroad.

But the Italian club have observed Liverpool's dramatic transformation on and off the field and are hoping for a similar change in fortunes themselves.

Milan's chief revenue officer Casper Stylsvig told Associated Press (via InsideFutbol ) that the Anfield model is what they are now aspiring to.

He said: "We talked to Liverpool because they followed the same path we are going through now.

"Four, five years ago, nobody considered Liverpool and look where they are now.

"They play very attractive football, they are winning, they have a fantastic manager, a fantastic team and now they are working well from a commercial perspective.

"It took some time, but their model seems to work".

Milan currently sit 7th in Serie A with seven games left, 26 points adrift of leaders Juventus and fifteen off city rivals Internazionale in fourth for the final Champions League qualifying spot.
