European elections: SNP victory in West Dunbartonshire

The Scottish National Party won over 10,000 votes in West Dunbartonshire as voters went to the polls in the latest European Parliamentary Elections.

The nationalists had 10,670 votes in total across the region with the Labour Party in second place on 3748 votes.

Nigel Farage gained 3240 votes for his Brexit Party who came a close third.

The votes in West Dunbartonshire followed the national trend which saw the SNP get just under 38 percent, giving it three MEPs.

The turnout figure for the area was 35.68 percent with a total of 23,518 ballot papers being cast.

All 28 EU member states are electing MEPs to the European Parliament - the EU's law-making body.
