European Diversity Awards get new headline sponsor

The European Diversity Awards has announced that Barclays have joined Google as co-headline sponsor of the 2013 awards.

The awards, which began in 2011, honour individuals, companies and community groups throughout Europe who have excelled in the field of diversity. As a multinational banking group, represented in over 50 countries globally, Barclays understands the need for diversity across its organisation, as demonstrated by their 7th place in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2013.

Anthony Watson, managing director and chief information officer for Europe and the Middle East retail and business banking at Barclays Bank PLC, who was the diversity champion of the year at the 2012 awards, was recently appointed the new chair of judges of the European Diversity Awards.

Anthony said: "The goal of the European Diversity Awards is to celebrate excellent achievements and to honour best practices and the efforts of individuals, organisations and companies for their hard work in creating a positive impact across Europe. I am incredibly proud that Barclays has chosen to co-headline sponsor the European Diversity Awards for both 2013 and 2014. At Barclays, we know that people are at their best when they can be themselves at work. We don't simply tolerate difference and diversity at Barclays, we embrace and celebrate it."

The 2013 awards will be officially launched on the 18 April in Paris by Curt Hess, managing director and chief executive officer for Europe and the Middle East retail and business banking at Barclays Bank PLC, where the categories for this year's awards will be announced and submissions will open for entries from across the continent.

Linda Riley, managing director of Square Peg Media and founder of the European Diversity Awards, said: "It is great that Barclays have come on board to co-sponsor this year's awards. With their proven history as a diverse organisation they will bring great new ideas to the table and ensure the 2013 awards are the best yet."

The European Diversity Awards will take place at the Natural History Museum in London on Thursday 26 September 2013.
