European Council President Donald Tusk muses about a "special place in hell" for Brexiteers

European Council President Donald Tusk said on Wednesday that he's wondered about what a "special place in hell" for Brexit supporters might look like after a meeting in Brussels about the possible consequences of a "no deal" Brexit with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.

"I've been wondering what that special place in hell looks like, for those who promoted #Brexit, without even a sketch of a plan how to carry it out safely."

The big picture: Tusk's comments come as embattled British Prime Minister Theresa May hopes to reopen talks with the European Union on the terms of the country's withdrawal agreement — specifically the controversial "backstop" that seeks to avoid a hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland after Brexit — after her plan was voted down in historic fashion by Parliament last month.
