After 43 years of steady union the UK is figuring out how to “consciously uncouple” from Europe.
On Thursday, 52% of British people who voted in the referendum said it was time to go, sparking a major political crisis.
The UK’s prime minister David Cameron swiftly announced that he was resigning, and said that it would be up to his successor to negotiate the divorce – otherwise known as Article 50.
In the meantime, both of the UK’s major political parties have been plunged into disarray and the public has been left wondering what the whole thing means for them. Will our European friends have to leave? Will our holidays become more expensive? Is the economy doomed?
Europeans are also trying to get their head around what’s happening. Officials in Brussels have warned that the UK will not be able to “cherry pick” the best of what the EU has to offer.
But others are extending a hand of friendship to bewildered Brits. On Monday a Bucharest-based newspaper launched a “Romanians for Remainians” campaign, offering a home to Brits who voted in, with the added bonus of better weather. Another Romanian project, Transylvania Beyond, is offering to help business owners and entrepreneurs relocate.
Would you adopt a ‘Remainian’?
As it’s impossible to predict where the next few days (let alone months) will take us, we’d like to take the opportunity to ask the rest of Europe to plan a dream future with the UK. Would you like adopt a “Remainian”? And, if so, how would you entice them to your part of Europe?
Fill in your details using the form below and we’ll use the best of your submissions in our coverage of the referendum.
