French international Benzema joined Real Madrid in 2009 after the club paid Lyon in the region of £35m for him. At the time Manchester United had also shown a keen interest in bringing the striker to Old Trafford, although Benzema ultimately chose to move to the Spanish capital. He has been in good form for Real under José Mourinho, although he was left frustrated at being left out of the starting line-up in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

Bayern Munich's talisman endured a difficult season in Germany, which culminated in a trophyless year for the 2010 Champions League finalists.
