Europe continues to swelter in heatwave with record-breaking temperatures recorded in Germany, Paris and Belgium

Europe continues to swelter with some temperature records being broken for the SECOND time this week.

Irish holidaymakers looking to jet off should heed warnings made by officials as the continent continues to be hit with the second heatwave of the summer.

Germany recorded a record high of 40.5C in Geilenkirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia state on Wednesday, smashing the old record of 40.3C.

But it didn’t stop there, with a sizzling 40.9C recorded just outside of Bonn on Thursday.

In France however, the mercury hit a staggering 42C with conditions predicted to have smashed Paris’ heat record set in 1947.

Their record for the month of July was broken yesterday afternoon, with 36.9C being recorded in Heathrow Airport in London.

Meanwhile in Ireland, it remains humid with highs at a much more tolerable 23C.
