Europa League: Porto v Manchester City - in pictures
Despite some probing runs by the City midfield, the first 20 minutes of the game sees the home side on top, with much of their attacking play coming down the left, as Micah Richards is giving Porto too much room Photograph: Miguel Riopa/AFP/Getty ImagesThere's a double blow for Porto's Danilo when he stretches to tackles Yaya Touré; firstly he injures himself and has to be carried off, then while he is being carried off the ref waves a yellow card in his direction as he's booking him a foul on the City player.Photograph: Jose Manuel Ribeiro/ReutersTwenty seven minutes in and it's bad news for Roberto Mancini and his team. Hulk goes on another rampaging run down the left before crossing the ball towards the near post where the arriving Varela sticks it home, and the home crowd goes wildPhotograph: Jose Manuel Ribeiro/Reuters
Mario Balotelli is back for Manchester City after his four match ban for stamping on Scott Parker, and he's proving a bit of a headache for Porto and in the first half he has a couple of decent half chances, but isn't able to convert themPhotograph: Francisco Leong/AFP/Getty ImagesDavid Silva is also having a busy game, here he is causing problems for Alvaro PereiraPhotograph: Miguel Riopa/AFP/Getty ImagesJust before the hour mark it's Balotelli who's causing problems for Pereira and the result this time is a goal for City. A long ball is played into the the box and as the City forward and the Porto defender both jump for the ball it comes off Pereira's shoulder and loops over Helton Aruda and into the netPhotograph: Lee Smith/Action ImagesPereira looks upset but it's Porto keeper Helton who should take the lion's share of the blame for letting City back in the game. There was no reason for him to come out so far to claim the long ballPhotograph: Jose Coelho/EPAAs the clock ticks down and with the scores level it gets a bit niggly out therePhotograph: Francisco Leong/AFP/Getty ImagesWith six minutes to go City's second half pressure pays off. Toure bursts through the Porto defence into the left hand side of the box, and then squares the ball to Aguero who doesn't miss from five yards out. City have the lead, and they hold on to it to win 2-1. At half-time you could have got odds of 10/1 on City coming back to win from behind. It's a very good result for the visitors as Porto hadn't lost at home in European competition for 4 years Photograph: Alex Livesey/Getty Images
