Motherwell 5 Glentoran 1
A second half collapse saw Glentoran dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday night.
The East Belfast side's spirited effort unravelled after Seanan Clucas was sent off in the 51st minute.
The midfielder picked up a second booking after catching Stephen O’Donnell late with a lunging challenge.
It would prove a defining moment as Motherwell went on to dominate the remainder of the game.
The opening goal arrived six minutes later, O'Donnell threading a clever pass into the path of Callum Lang who stabbed a close range shot past the sprawling Dayle Coleing.
Three more goals in six minutes eased Stephen Robinson's Motherwell clear.
It was 2-0 in the 72nd minute courtesy of a wonderful strike from O’Donnell.
He fired home his first goal for the club after being teed up by Liam Pulworth, the Scotland international arrowing a bullet of a shot past Coleing from 27 yards.
Motherwell made it 3-0 in the 75th minute when Pulworth headed home from five yards out after Coleing can only parry Long’s drive into the air.
It was 4-0 three minutes later when Tony Watt fired into an empty net, and Motherwell made it 5-0 in the 87th minute when Long’s lively display is rewarded with a goal.
Glentoran earned a consolation in the 90th minute.
It came from the penalty spot, Robbie McDaid slotting home after substitute Ciaran O’Connor is fouled by Harry Robinson.
Glentoran had their moments in the game, with Paul O'Neill and Rory Donnelly both going close in the first half.
O'Neill also arrowed an effort over the bar in the second period.
